Troubles with Democracy- in Development
As we develop this sequel to Exporting Democracy? we want to continue to examine democracy as it is playing out today, around the world. Is the world becoming more, or less democratic and why? this is the central question of this documentary.We are currently developing a concept for the doc – a moving target with almost all of North Africa entering the picture, Latin America in a state of flux and the economies of many countries testing the limits of tolerance and understanding for their governments’ behaviour- two essential ingredients of democracy. Democracy is never static; the math to describe it is calculus not arithmetic.
As the film will show, democracy has inherent difficulties that threaten its survival. The degree to which any democracy will succeed will depend on acknowledgement of these challenges and a willingness to accept the adventure of dealing with them.
